This module is an introduction to the issue of stress and how to cope with it in education, to promote resilience in both teachers and their students.

This module reviews learning objectives, presents ideas for DIY teaching aids and explores different ways the teacher can enhance learning in environments with limited resources.

This module explores how teachers can define and enhance their student’s engagement and motivation. It will present a variety of strategies and techniques for how to group learners, how to differentiate for engagement and how to give feedback to improve motivation.

Subject: Social Science Students: 16 young adults (18 – 25 years old)
Objectives:

  • Students will be able to analyse environmental issues in Singapore and Indonesia.
  • Students will be able to present and justify opinions on environmental issues.
Lesson Details:

  • Environmental issues in Southeast Asia.
  • Focus on air pollution in Singapore and Indonesia.

1. Introduction (5 minutes)
Activities: • Teacher pre-teaches vocabulary needed for the radio programme. • Students discuss new vocabulary and predict what the radio programme is about.
Grouping: Whole class

2. Presentation (10 minutes)
Activities: • Students listen to radio programmes and answer questions on the worksheet.

3. Peer Checking (10 minutes)
Activities: • Students compare answers. • Students discuss what they learned about the situation between Singapore and Indonesia from the radio programme.

4. Roleplay Preparation (15 minutes)
Activities: • In groups, students receive a role and its description (Singaporeans, Indonesian Plantation Owners, Indonesian Leaders, Singaporean Leaders). • Groups prepare their arguments for a debate.

5. Roleplay Debate (20 minutes)
Activities: • Representatives from each group deliver their arguments. • Groups debate the issues. • The teacher summarises the key points.
